El Paso sheriff's deputy attacked by pit bull mix

TEXAS -- A deputy who was reportedly attacked by a pit bull mix shot at the dog during a response to a vicious-dog call in San Elizario, officials said.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were responding to the 600 block of Gaviota Drive on Wednesday.

When deputies approached the residence to confront the dog’s owner, the dog charged at a deputy and bit the deputy several times on both hands, officials said.

Officials said the deputy used his duty weapon and shot and injured the dog.

The deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, and the dog owner was cited for not being able to provide current vaccination paperwork on the dog.

The dog was taken by the Sheriff’s Office Animal Control for quarantine.
