Perla Rojas-Ibarra sentenced to just 5 years after her vicious pit bulls, which had previously attacked a 13 year-old boy, mauled her elderly neighbor to death

TEXAS -- The owner of a dog that escaped from her yard and mauled Petra Aguirre, 84, to death was sentenced for five years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to charges of a dangerous dog attack resulting in death.

Perla Rojas, 34, (aka Perla Rojas-Ibarra) testified during her sentencing hearing Thursday that the fence in yard was in disrepair as she accepted responsibility for the fatal attack.

“I had never seen anything like it,” Animal Care Services supervisor Audra Houghton testified.

The two dogs were identified by Animal Care Services as Bebe and Skirtgles, both female American Staffordshire terrier mixes, which are often called pit bulls. Both dogs were euthanized.

During the hearing, Chris Aguirre, the victim’s son, described his mother’s condition when he went to the hospital following the attack.

“She hadn’t been cleaned up. She still had grass in her hair, dirt,” he said.

She was found mauled “from her scalp to her toes,” her family said last year.

“The dog had ripped her ears off,” Aguirre testified. “There was a big gash in her skull.”

He said, “It was one of the worst days of my life.”

Speaking through an interpreter, Rojas asked the Aguirre family for forgiveness.

“I feel bad for the lady, for what she had to go through,” she said to the family seated in the courtroom audience.

How do you say "crocodile tears" in Spanish?

Rest in peace, Mrs. Aguirre

Rojas was facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Back in May 2013, Rojas' two killer pit bulls and another dog belonging to Rojas had attacked a 13-year-old boy in the 2100 block of West Salinas Street, according to ACS. The boy was treated for bites on his legs and buttocks.
Rojas CHOSE to keep these vicious dogs -- and a year later they killed Mrs. Aguirre.

So if any of you were feeling sorry for Rojas... DON'T. She made her bed.
