TENNESSEE -- An Oakhaven woman has been indicted on felony animal cruelty charges for allegedly failing to treat her dog's severe skin infection.
According to the district attorney's office, Diane Shields Parnell took her 9-month-old pit bull to an animal clinic in November 2014.
She was given medication to treat the dog's advanced skin infection, but she never brought it back for a follow-up visit.
Four months later she took the dog to the Humane Society for surrender.
Investigators said the skin infection had spread to 90 percent of the animal's body, causing it extreme pain and suffering.
Veterinarians said the dog would have died if the infection had not been treated.
The dog is doing alright now. He is free of infection and was recently adopted.
