Dog owner could face charges after pet found malnourished, bleeding

TEXAS -- A Longview pet owner could face criminal charges, after police report finding the owner's dog in distress Wednesday along a street in the city's east side.

According to the City of Longview, a police officer was on routine patrol near Jane and Texas streets when the officer noticed what appeared to be a dog that was malnourished, bleeding from open wounds, and suffering from a severe case of the mange.

The officer contacted Longview animal control officers, who responded to the scene and helped find the dog's owner while transporting the dog to the Humane Society of Northeast Texas. According to the city, the dog was later taken to an area veterinarian for treatment.

At this time it seems the dog will be able to make a full recovery, but the recovery will be a long process," city administrators said in a statement. "The suspect's information was obtained and a case will be forwarded to the Gregg County District Attorney for review."
