Matthew Blackman, 38, charged with animal cruelty after one dog found dead, another neglected

NORTH CAROLINA -- A Greenville man is charged with animal cruelty after one dog was found dead and another in poor physical condition in his backyard.

Matthew Blackman, 38, turned himself into Greenville police Wednesday night.

Last Thursday police say Animal Protective Services received an anonymous tip about a foul odor coming from the back of 300 Cedar Street, Unit A.

There they found a seven-year-old Akita dead, and another seven-year-old Akita that had been neglected.

Police say the dog had not been tended to in several days, but thanks to two local veterinarians the surviving Akita is expected to make a full recovery.

Blackman's bond was set at $5,000.
