Darlington police were sent to a report of a dog attack in progress at a city residence last week where they found a dog attacking a pet pony, according to a post on the police department’s Facebook page.

An officer and a neighbor were able to get the dog away from the pony, but the pony died at Center Hill Vet Clinic, officials said.
According to the post, the dog was euthanized because of the attack.
Police said the story did not end the way they wanted, but they wanted to thank everyone who helped try and save the pony.
“I value the care, compassion and hard work of everyone who helped give this little fella a fighting chance,” Darlington police Chief Jason King said in the post.
