NEBRASKA -- Nebraska Humane Society officers took a pit bull into custody Thursday after the dog bit a 3-year-old so badly that his face will require plastic surgery.
The dog will remain under quarantine until a Douglas County judge decides his fate, said Mark Langan, vice president of field operations for the humane society. Officers are searching for the dog’s owner, Andrew Carrera, 30, of Omaha, to ticket him on suspicion of harboring a dangerous animal.
Police officers responded to Children’s Hospital & Medical Center about 8 p.m. Wednesday after learning that the toddler had been bitten by a 7-month-old pit bull. The boy’s mother, Andrea Raymond, 28, told police that her son said he was bitten while trying to take a bone from her boyfriend’s dog.
Officers noticed bite marks near the boy’s left eye, cheek, mouth and nose. Hospital staff said the injuries will require plastic surgery. Medical personnel also pointed out bite marks on the boy’s chest and a previous bite mark near the boy’s left eye.
