Robert James Neely, 65, charged with stabbing roommate's dog

WISCONSIN -- Police say a Pit Bull - Labrador Retriever mix named Bravo was the victim in a dispute between roommates shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday evening in a house in the 1600 block of East Mason Street.

Green Bay Police Capt. Jim Runge said the dog apparently growled at his owner's roommate, Robert James Neely, prompting Neely to grab a hunting knife and stab the dog in the neck.

"The guy was intoxicated," Runge said, "and he doesn't like the dog."

Officer Miranda Walvort rushed the dog to the Green Bay Animal Emergency Center in Ashwaubenon for treatment. The dog, named "Bravo," had a 3- to 4-centimeter deep cut to its neck but is expected to recover, Runge said.

Neely, 65, was charged Friday with disorderly conduct and intentionally mistreating animals.

Online court records show he was convicted in 2003 of disorderly conduct and misdemeanor battery in connection with a 2002 incident in Brown County. He was sentenced to nine months in jail and fined $10,123. Almost $10,000 of that remains unpaid, court records show.
