Sean Mills banned from owning pets for 10 years after pleading guilty to animal cruelty

CANADA -- A Kingston man, who pleaded guilty to animal abuse, has been ordered to pay $1,308 in restitution and fines, has been put under a 10-year probation from owning an animal and is on probation for 12 months.

On July 4, the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to a Kingston residence, where a dog, named Frankie, was reportedly losing large patches of fur and had scabbing on its legs and face. When agents arrived, they found the black Labrador Retriever / Chow Chow  mix living in an unsanitary situation.

"The agent observed the dog was losing large quantities of fur on its body, had an ear and eye infection, and was in need of veterinary attention," a news release from the OSPCA said.

Frankie was removed from the residence and taken to the Kingston Humane Society to receive ongoing veterinary treatment.

Sean Mills of Kingston pleaded guilty on Oct. 19 to permitting an animal to be in distress, under the Ontario SPCA Act.

"There is no excuse to let an animal go without proper care," Steve Toy, senior inspector with the Ontario SPCA, said in a news release. "If you are having difficulty providing appropriate care, contact your Ontario SPCA Community Society to discuss what options are available."

Someone please adopt Frankie!

Frankie is now available for adoption at the Kingston Humane Society. For more information, go online to kingstonhumanesociety.ca/available-pets.
