CONNECTICUT -- A woman was charged with 59 counts of animal cruelty Thursday after police seized 59 cats living in "deplorable" conditions from her Finch Road home last month.
Police said Cheryl McMurray, 53, who resides at 83 Finch Rd., agreed to turn herself in Thursday after police obtained a warrant yesterday charging her with 59 counts of animal cruelty.
The charges stem from a search of McMurray's residence last month after receiving numerous complaints about the home that found the cats living in "deplorable" conditions inside the home.
Police said that 59 cats were seized from McMurray's home as a result of the investigation.
"This is the end result," Police Chief Edward Stephens said of the charges against McMurray.
Stephens said that McMurray was released on a promise to appear but that a judge stipulated she could not own any cats or dogs as a result of her arrest. She is due in Waterbury Superior Court on the charges Nov. 30.
