Yadkin County woman, Latasha Dawn Wilkins, 27, arrested officer finds two dead dogs at home

NORTH CAROLINA -- A Boonville woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges after animal control was called to conduct a welfare check on several dogs at her home.

Latasha Dawn Wilkins, 27, was charged with two felony counts of killing an animal by starvation and six counts of cruelty to animals.

When the animal control officer arrived at the woman’s home, he saw several dogs that did not appear to have been cared for by the owner.

Some of the dogs didn’t have food, and others were severely emaciated.

The officer reported finding two dead dogs that appeared to have died of starvation.

None of the dogs were ever seen by a veterinarian, according to the owner.

Wilkins was given a $7,000 secured bond and is expected to appear in court on Nov. 10.
