Cat shot and killed with bow and arrow

MARYLAND -- Family members found their cat, Sheldon bleeding with a bow and arrow shot through his body last Friday night.

“The family in the morning had gone up to their stable area to feed their horses and when they were doing that they discovered their pet cat, Sheldon, actually had an arrow stuck in him,” PIO for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Carly Hose said.

Investigators said the cat was shot in the 7200-block of Wheeler Road in Boonsboro.

RIP poor Sheldon

Sheldon was a loving member of his family for 10 years, but he died after the arrow was removed from his body.

“The arrow had entered through the back of the cat and actually had come out through his chest area,” Hose said.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect. Hose said she suspects one individual intentionally shot the cat. The individual used a Maxima red and silver bow and arrow to shoot Sheldon.

The arrow was actually a carbon arrow, so it was a high quality arrow. It wasn’t something that was just out and about, and the tip that was on the arrow was actually a practice tip,” Hose said.

While members of the Humane Society of Washington County said there is not much owners can do to protect their pets against horrors like this, they do have some words of advice.

“We always encourage people to keep an eye on their pets and keep them under control and definitely put ID on them. But, there’s not a lot that someone can do to prevent the cruel activities of somebody else,” Kim Intino, CEO of the Humane Society of Washington County said.

Anyone with information in regards to this case is asked to call Detective Shank at 240-313-2170.
