Andrew Glenn was seen punching and kicking a female pit bull in his backyard, and he was arrested on Sept. 15, police said.
Glenn was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals / torture, and the El Paso Humane Society took custody of the pit bull.
According to the arrest affidavit, Glenn punched the dog at least 10 times in the face and chest. He also kicked her several times and was seen picking her up by the front paws several times as she cowered in distress. Police officers also determined that the dog did not have adequate shelter to protect herself from the elements.
Glenn was a soldier enlisted in the U.S. Army at the time of his arrest, but he was no longer enlisted as of late September.
Fort Bliss officials said there would not be a military investigation into the matter, because it occurred in El Paso.
A trial date has not been set.
