From a South Bend dumpster to a loving home, abandoned Sheltie thrives

INDIANA -- Back in May, we told you about a dog that was abandoned in a South Bend dumpster.

Abbie, a 3-year-old sheltie, was found in a trash pile near Chippewa and Main Street.

South Bend Animal Care and Control took the dog in and received an outpouring of support from the community.

Abbie was timid and underweight at the time, but seven months later, she's doing better than ever!

Her owners, Alex and Scott, sent SBACC an updateand a picture that shows just how much she's thriving.

"This is Abbie, the sheltie found in the dumpster this summer.

Her weight has doubled and her thin fur with bald spots is now a beautiful thick coat.

She had her first Thanksgiving with us and her 2 sheltie sisters!

Have a great Holiday season!
-Alex and Scott"

Abbie has a wonderful life now

South Bend Animal Care and Control wrote on their Facebook page: "We especially LOVE happy endings for animals that received a not so happy start! Abbie is thriving!"
