Westchester Pet Store Owner, Richard Doyle, Pleads Not Guilty To Animal Cruelty Charges

CONNECTICUT -- Charges of animal cruelty continue to hang over American Breeders, a Mohegan Lake pet store chain, according to a story on News 12.

In July, American Breeders owner Richard Doyle was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and the death of two animals. The 55-year-old Mahopac man pleaded not guilty and called the allegations false, News 12 said.

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture says Doyle was arrested after a lengthy investigation prompted by one of his employees at American Breeders.

The allegations include failing to properly care for a dog and a kitten at his Danbury store location. Both were later euthanized.

Doyle's store manager, 29-year-old Kathy Seton, of Cold Spring, has also been charged in the case. She pleaded not guilty to two counts of animal cruelty, News 12 said.

Seton is scheduled to go before a judge in January. Doyle is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Jan 6, News 12 said.
