Woman says she called about starving dogs and Animal Control did nothing. Now those dogs are dead.

FLORIDA -- Onslow County Animal Services is investigating allegations of animal cruelty in Jacksonville.

Teresa Hewitt rents out a property on Nelson Drive in Jacksonville. She said she found the bodies of three dogs in bins and trash bags in her backyard last week. She believes her former tenant left them there.

Hewitt said she checked on the tenant in October. Back then, she was surprised to find that the home had a strong smell of urine and that several malnourished dogs were living there.

She said she contacted Onslow County Animal Services, but the dogs were never taken away.

"I was disgusted, pretty much," Hewitt said. "It's sad. You know, [the dogs were] just wrapped up in their little blankets. I wouldn't want that for my animals."

We are not identifying the tenant because she has not been charged. NewsChannel 12 contacted Onslow County Animal Services. Workers said the case was under investigation.
