Arizona: Tracey Hughey, 53, President AND Director of 501c3 Haven Animal Rescue, found hoarding dogs at her home

Unclear why, if they seized the dogs almost a year ago in APRIL 2015, charges weren't filed until just now...

ARIZONA -- Charges have been filed this week against a Glendale woman who, police say, had three dead dogs caged in her home.

Glendale police said in court documents that on April 11, 2015 officers were called to the home of Tracey Hughey (aka Tracy Hughey), 53,  near 55th Avenue and Greenway. While there, they found the living conditions to be deplorable.

Police said there was trash covering the floor, urine and feces throughout, and 18 dogs either caged or wandering the home with no water and little food. They then found three dogs inside cages that "had been dead for a long time," according to the court documents.

Hughey arrived at her home later that day and told officer she worked for Haven Animal Rescue and housed the dogs at her home until they were ready for adoption, records say.

She said the three dogs died from medical issues and that she was "so depressed" over their deaths she neglected the other animals.

The remaining dogs were given to the Arizona Human Society for treatment and care.

Hughey is scheduled to be in court on Feb. 18 to answer to animal cruelty charges.

CitizenAudit.org says Haven Animal Rescue generated nearly $75,000 in income as of December 2014.

$75k in income. I don't even make that much money each year, but slap up some photos of sad looking dogs and cats and people will flood you with money and donations. The problem is? Who's paying attention to where these animals are ending up? If a desperate "kill" shelter hands over 50 animals to Alana Holley and Tracey Hughey, where is the accountability? And does this shelter know if these women are going to the next county and pulling another 50 animals? You've heard the phrase "doctor shopping" for prescription pill addicts. These 1-2 person non-profits "shelter shop" and take advantage of shelters desperate to hand off animals slated for euthanasia to someone - anyone - who promises to find the animals a home.

Also, according to The Arizona Corporation Commission, it appears that Tracey Hughey and Alana Holley also ran a non-profit called Finding Fido Animal Rescue, from 2011 - 2013, until it was dissolved due to Hughey and Holley failing to file their annual reports.
