Arizona: Whetstone residents concerned after dead dogs dumped in neighborhood

ARIZONA -- Cochise County deputies are increasing patrols in a Whetstone neighborhood where residents made a disturbing discovery last week.

Concerned residents reached out to Tucson News Now after finding two dead dogs stuffed in trash bags and dumped on a residential street.

Dennis and Therese Williamson said they were outraged and concerned after they found the animals. The dogs were dumped next to a wash in a neighborhood a few blocks behind the Whetstone Fire Department, off Highway 90.

Dennis Williamson saw the first dead dog stuffed in a trash bag last Friday night.

"It bothered me, tore me up. I'd like to find the person who did this," Williamson said.

The second dead dog showed up on Sunday morning.

"Same color bag just a smaller dog," Williamson said.

Williamson peeked into the bags before calling the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

"First one here had blood on it's face, and this one looks like it's face is caved in," Williamson said, adding that the sight made him feel sick to the stomach. "I don't get it."

His wife, Therese Williamson, is a big animal advocate.

She said she is concerned that the animals could be someone's pet, although deputies said they do not have any reports of missing dogs in the area.

"I'm worried that maybe it didn't have a good ending, that maybe it met its end through torture. I don't know that," she said.

Many questions remain about the case, which may never be investigated.

Deputies said they will step up patrols in the area, but they do not have funding to perform necropsies on the animals to determine a cause of death.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about this case to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
