GEORGIA -- An 18-year-old Clinton Township man had to undergo surgery for wounds to his arm after he was attacked by a family pet pit bull, police said Friday.
Police were called to a house in the area east of Harper near 15 Mile Road about 9 p.m. Thursday after someone called 911 to report a pet pit bull was attacking a family member, said Clinton Township Detective Lt. Eric Reincke.
“The son who lives there was being attacked,” Reincke said. “When the officer arrived, family members were trying to hold the dog down. The victim had holes in his shirt sleeves and puncture wounds to his arm.”
Reincke said the son’s parents stabbed the dog several times in an effort to stop the attack, but the dog would not release the victim’s arm from its jaws.
Don't pit bull defenders insist that pit bulls don't 'lock' their jaws???
As the officer approached, the dog growled at him, Reincke said.
The officer shot the dog with a Taser device to disable the animal, which ran into a bedroom as the family fled the house. The officer closed the bedroom door to trap the dog,
An animal control officer was called to the house and used two tranquilizer darts to subdue the dog. The owner signed over the dog to the animal control officer, and the dog was later euthanized. The victim underwent surgery at McLaren Macomb hospital in Mount Clemens for several bite wounds, Reincke said.
“The dog bit the guy’s arm pretty bad,” he said. “Apparently, there was another incident of the dog biting family members back in December, so this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened there.”
Tests are being conducted to determine whether the dog had rabies.
