TEXAS -- A pit bull in Montana Vista attacked two dogs, killing one, according to a resident.
Owen Aguero lives on Krag Street and said his neighbor’s pit bull managed to jump over a 6-foot rock wall and attack his two dogs, a Shih-tzu and a St.Bernard, that were on a leash in his backyard.
Aguero said his Shih-tzu was killed and the St. Bernard suffered injuries on her neck.
Aguero was able to restrain the pit bull and called sheriff’s deputies, but said he waited for an hour before they arrived.
Chris Acosta with the sheriff’s office said when deputies arrived; they were able to locate the pit bull’s owner.
Animal control took the dog into custody, but Aguero is frustrated because he said the dog will likely be given back to the owner.
“That’s what’s so unfortunate about this situation. The animal control officer said that because of a city ordinance, they cannot put the dog down and the neighbor has the right to go and get the dog out at any time. This is what bothered me.Because I find it unfair that the dog jumped over and we have a closed area and it killed my dog and they’re not going to put him down,” Aguero said.
Acosta said the pit bull’s owner will receive a citation.
