Michigan: Deborah Lewandowski Given 72 Hours to Post 45K bond or Forfeit Animals

MICHIGAN -- The animal cruelty and neglect case in alpena continues as Judge Michael Mack has granted Deborah Lewandowski (also spelled Debra Lewandowski on other news sites) 72 hours to post a $45,000.00 bond, or forfeit the alleged neglected animals.

Judge Mack had 14 days to make his decision and now, two horses, a turkey, and dog that were all taken away from Eve Burcar, will be surrendered back to her.

In an opinion and order from the assistant prosecutor's office, it states that the court heard two days of testimony and received a number of evidence.

It was made clear that Lewandowski failed to provide all of the animals with adequate care and the sanitary conditions of her residence were abysmal and below the standards expected of a reasonable prudent animal owner.

Lewandowski has previously refused to sign over ownership of the animals to the Huron Humane Society, so prosecuting attorney, Cynthia Muszynski, filed a forfeiture of the animals last month which would allow the county to have access to the animals rather than the previous owner.

If the $45,000.00 is not met, the animals will be officially awarded to the prosecutor as previously requested.

Lewandoski is accused of animal abuse and neglect charges of over 80 animals that were seized back in August.
