Oregon: James Jay Parker, 51, beat his dog with a hammer and then stabbed it to death

OREGON -- A 51-year-old man is accused of maliciously killing a dog that he claimed had bad “juju,” according to court documents.

James Jay Parker appeared in Jackson County court on Wednesday where he was charged with one count each of aggravated first-degree animal abuse and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

His bail has been set at $200,000 and he remains in jail.


Parker was arrested on Tuesday in the 900 block of Mt. Pitt Avenue in Medford. Police say Parker beat his dog with a hammer and then stuck a knife in its chest.

“(Parker) stated the dog had bad ‘ju ju’ and was tied to his ex-wife,” according to court documents.

At the time of his arrest, Parker was in possession of a firearm.

If Parker gets released, Judge Timothy Barnack has ordered he not possess firearm, either actual or simulated, ammunition, weapons or dangerous animals He’s also been ordered not to have any contact with animals.

His next court date is Jan. 20.

  1. This goon just tried to kill his jailmate and is going for the 'crazy' plea. At least he won't get out to terrorize his inlaws and innocent children. I know this bunch of trash. They are criminal, welfare bums, all of them. There is no mental illness,just trash being trash.
