South Carolina: I love this judge! Ron Hevener, 64, didn't bother to show up at his trial. The judge convicted him on ALL counts!

SOUTH CAROLINA -- A St. Matthews man accused of ill-treatment of animals at a Calhoun County farm in 2015 has been convicted, despite his failure to show up at his trial.

The trial for Ron Hevener was Tuesday in Calhoun County Court. He was charged with five counts of ill-treatment of animals. Two of the charges were felonies.

Hevener was convicted on all counts.

The Solicitor's office tells WIS Hevener attended his last court appearance on December 14 and other previous court dates and was aware of his trial date. He did not have an attorney.

A bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Eight witnesses testified for the prosecution.

Hevener was charged in April when investigators found several horses at his St. Matthews farm in poor health. Although Hevener promised to improve conditions for the horses, Calhoun County deputies say they did not see improvement on a second visit to the farm.

All three rough collies were not in good shape. The tricolor male was shaved due to mats. He had wounds on his chest and genitals. He needs surgery to drain the wound on his chest and is being treated for whip and hook worms as well as fleas and ticks.

South Carolina resident Ron Hevener seemed to have lived a charmed life. According to his biography on his official website, Hevener owns "one of the oldest dog show kennels in the U.S." and he's both an artist and a licensed racehorse trainer, but now he can add CONVICTED ANIMAL ABUSER to his biography!
