TEXAS -- Twenty-nine-year-old Cody Glenn Bednar of Gun Barrel City was arrested on Thursday on a warrant stemming from a reported attack on a Chihuahua.
Bednar was booked into the Henderson County Jail for cruelty to non-livestock animals. He was released on Friday after posting $4,500 bond.
Henderson County Sheriff’s Office reports said the events that led to Bednar's arrest began on Dec. 23. At about 4:55 p.m. the HCSO received a call in reference to a disturbance at a residence on Snapper Lane in the Bonita Point subdivision. HCSO Patrol Sgt. Thomas Goodell and Dep. Dustin Smith arrived at the residence to investigate the disturbance.
According to reports, during the deputys’ investigation, they were told a male subject at the residence had attacked and injured the Chihuahua. The owner of the dog was no longer at the residence.
HCSO Animal Control Dep. John Haverly was contacted to assist with the investigation, while Smith transported the injured dog to the Athens Animal Clinic for treatment.
HCSO reports said the deputies determined during the investigation that the dog had also bitten a subject. The Sheriff’s Office was advised the male subject that attacked and injured the dog had left the residence prior to their arrival.
As a result of the investigation, Haverly identified the male who injured the animal as Bednar. On Wednesday, Haverly prepared an affidavit for an arrest warrant, and presented it to Henderson County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Randy Daniel.
Daniel issued an arrest warrant for Bednar for the offense of cruelty to non-livestock animals, which is a State Jail Felony. HCSO Dep. Kyle Pochobradsky arrested Bednar on Thursday, and transported him to the Henderson County Jail.
