VIRGINIA -- A woman who rescued a cat, she believes had been left for dead, wants justice.
“This was a cardboard and duct tape and plastic tomb for this cat,” said Lisa Suhay. “I don’t think anyone intended for this cat to survive.”
The cat did survive, thanks to Suhay’s neighbors, who were out for a walk on Melrose Parkway Friday morning.
They spotted the box on the median and went to look closer after they saw it moving.
Suhay says they sought her help, because she had a cat carrier. She shot video as the neighbors pulled the frantic cat from the soaked box.
“As soon as she was inside, and realized she was someplace warm and safe and there was food there, she started to purr like a jet engine,” Suhay said. “I can’t even imagine what it takes, what lack of humanity has to be going on for someone to do that to any living thing.”
The cat is on a “stray hold” at Norfolk Animal Care Center until later this week, so caretakers can determine whether someone stole her from a family.
Once she’s released, Suhay plans to adopt her, and give her a name.
“We’re thinking about calling her Jet, because she purred so much like a jet engine,” she said.
Norfolk Police are now investigating as a case of animal cruelty. If you know anything that can help in the investigation, call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP
