WASHINGTON -- A man is accused of kicking a puppy and slamming it on the ground several times.
Prosecutors charged James E. Goodlake, a 22-year-old Wilbur man, in Grant County Superior Court with animal cruelty in the first degree.
Witnesses reported seeing Goodlake with a white puppy on Dec. 13 in front of a Hill Street home in Grand Coulee, according to Grand Coulee police. He allegedly kicked the puppy, picked it up and threw it to the ground.
He reportedly kicked it again and grabbed it by the neck. A witness reported yelling at Goodlake, “You shouldn’t have a dog if that’s how you’re going to treat it.”
Goodlake allegedly walked away with the dog, and the witness called 9-1-1.
The defendant was not assigned a defense attorney as of Dec. 30.
Bail was set at $2,500. Goodlake was listed as being incarcerated at the Grant County Work Release Center on Thursday.
