Alabama: Second Pit Bull Attack On A Child In A Week

ALABAMA -- Witnesses say six-year-old Andrew Bulger was playing in the front yard of a Wilmer home when a one-year-old pit bull named JR attacked him. The pit bull broke free of his chain and lunged for Andrew’s neck.

We spoke with Lori Myles of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office who described the attack based on the report, “The dog was on a chain, he was chained up and there were several children playing and the dog broke free and attacked the six-year-old.”

The dog then repeatedly shook young Andrew by his neck.

Myles says deputies were called to the hospital to evaluate the boy’s injuries, “we went to the hospital to see the injuries there and we made the contact with animal control so that they could go out and conduct an investigation.”

Andrew’s injuries are extremely severe. Deputies described Andrew as having multiple wounds on his neck and cheek area. Andrew’s aunt, Chasity Vickery, says that his initial injuries were so bad that he had to be airlifted to UAB in order to receive treatment. He is still there fighting for his life.

As far as the dog is concerned it will undergo 10-days quarantine. The county will be conducting their own investigation into the attack.

Nancy Johnson tells us that they will be speaking to the victim as well as the witnesses there at the time of the attack to determine exactly what happened. She says that she will be fighting for the Dangerous Dog Attack to come into play in this case.
