Pennsylvania: Meadville man Michael Arnold, 24, faces charges of animal cruelty after allegedly beating puppy

PENNSYLVANIA -- A Meadville man will face charges of animal cruelty in district court today after he was accused of beating a puppy so severely that the beating led to its death.

Michael Dean Arnold, 24, was arraigned Jan. 16 before Magisterial District Judge Lincoln Zilhaver on a second degree misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals. Vernon Township police filed charges following an incident on Dec. 28.

On that date, a 17-week-old puppy, weighing approximately 15 pounds, was left in Arnold's care, according to police. The owner returned to find the puppy injured so severely that immediate medical care was sought. The injuries to the puppy led to its death, police report.

Arnold is currently free in lieu of $5,000 unsecured bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today in district court.
