Connecticut: Torrington woman Suzanne Bristol, 49, accused of running fake dog rescue facing larceny charge

CONNECTICUT -- A city woman is facing a larceny charge after police said she ran a dog rescue and took people’s adoption fees but never provided any animals.

Suzanne Bristol, 49, was running “Just For Labs Rescue” out of her 60 Berry St. home in Torrington, police said. She was arrested Monday and charged with third-degree larceny.

Police received several complaints against Bristol from September 2015 to December 2015 from people who allegedly had given her money and received nothing in return. Detectives investigated the complaints, which came from people in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

The complainants told police Bristol used the website “Adopt a Pet” to post pictures and advertise dogs available for rescue upon request.

Five different people paid Bristol adoption fees, which were supposed to include a veterinary exam, and were told they would have their new dog shipped to them, police said.

The investigation showed Bristol never had the dogs at her rescue, police said. The dogs were all in shelters in other states and the photos posted of the dogs were from other websites.

Police said Bristol also never paid any veterinary exam bills and never shipped any dogs to any of the complainants. When the complainants made attempts to get their money back or get the dog they had paid for, they never received anything in return, according to police.

Bristol’s bond was set at $1,000 cash and she was due in Bantam Superior Court on Tuesday.
