KENTUCKY -- A Posey County man now faces animal cruelty charges for allegedly mistreating and hoarding dogs.
Prosecutors charged Brent Holder with eight counts of animal cruelty. Sheriffs deputies say eight dogs were found at his home that was full of trash and waste.
Jennifer Eaton saw sheriffs deputies arrive at holder's home next door.
"I saw them talking with him,” she says. Eaton says she knew holder had one dog, but didn't know eight were inside his home off of Lower Mount Vernon Road.
"I assumed he had dogs because we had seen one, but I had no idea that there were eight, because I never heard them out in the yard. I never heard them,” says Eaton.
Holder was arrested Saturday on a probation violation. Posey County Sheriffs Deputies say the dogs were found inside, living in trash and filth, with allegedly little food to eat.
"They had very little hair, if any. they had horrible skin condition. Their skin looked like elephant skin,” says Brenda Vanderver of PC Pound Puppies. Vanderver says the dogs were not under weight, but their appearance was concerning.
"We're not sure if they had a lot of parasites that's making them fatter or what they were eating. We're wondering about what they were eating. They all had bloated bellies, but that will go down,” she says.
The dogs were taken to get cleaned and will get up to date on vaccines.
"It's life changing for them,” says Vanderver when asked about the baths the dogs got. “they'll go and get adopted into new homes. They'll be taken care of. They'll be in a clean environment. It'll be a new life for them."
Vanderver says at least one of the dogs could be up for adoption in the next couple of days and it could take weeks for them to be adopted.
