Tracy Lapeyrouse and Leslie Matherne were cited by police officers after dozens of neglected animals were found in and around their residence.
The investigation started when Houma police officers responded to a loose dogs complaint in the 100 block of South Van Avenue just before noon on Feb. 6. According to HPD, officers learned that the animals belonged to Lapeyrouse and Matherne, the co-owners of My Heart's Desire animal rescue.
When police went inside their residence, officers found 36 dogs either confined in cages or running loose in the yard. Police say several animals were neglected and the residence had animal feces, urine and fur throughout.
Lapeyrouse and Matherne were cited for four counts of Leash Law Violation and 36 counts of Animal Neglect according to the Houma Police Department,
All of the animals were taken by Animal Control and transported to the Terrebonne Parish Shelter. Shelter workers are working to provide care for these animals and help them find a new home. If you can help in any way, please contact the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter at rescue@tpcg.org or 985-873-6709.
