New York: Amherst judge spares pit bull that bit family friend's child; Pit Bull owner's had blamed her for "provoking" their dog into attacking her face

NEW YORK -- An Amherst town judge decided Thursday that a dog that attacked the child of a family friend, a 10-year-old girl, on Harlem Road last year will not be destroyed.

Instead, Judge Geoffrey Klein ruled that House, the pit bull-labrador mix, can be kept under a long list of conditions, including being muzzled when unattended and being kept in a kennel when non-family members are around.

The owners of the Pit Bull mix blamed the child for the attack, claiming the dog was "provoked" into latching onto her face and mauling her.

The owner also needs to get liability insurance and a license in Cheektowaga, where they have moved.

Both sides agreed to the conditions.
