Gloversville woman Claudia Tate charged with animal cruelty for allegedly taping dogs muzzles shut

NEW YORK -- On Sunday, February 28, at around 1:49 p.m. Gloversville Police were sent to a residence on Union St. to check the welfare of two dogs that were chained in the backyard.

Upon arriving, officers found two dogs tied outside with their muzzles duct taped shut.

As officers attempted to remove the tape from one of the dogs the owner of the dogs, Claudia Tate, appeared from inside the home and removed the tape from the second dog.

During the course of interviewing, Tate admitted to taping the dog’s mouth in an attempt to keep them from barking in order to take a nap. The animals were removed immediately and placed in the custody of a local animal shelter.

Tate was charged with two misdemeanor counts of Agriculture and Markets Law, Cruelty to Animals.

Tate was arraigned in Gloversville City Court and remanded to the Fulton County Correctional Facility on $2,500 cash bail/$5,000 bond.
