Nebraska: Tanya Perez gets ONE YEAR in jail for assault, animal cruelty

NEBRASKA -- A judge sentenced a 40-year-old Lincoln woman to a year in county jail for slashing a woman in the calf and a pit bull in the neck with a steak knife a year ago.

Tanya Perez pleaded no contest to third-degree assault and animal cruelty, both misdemeanors.

Police got a call on the night of Nov. 27 about an assault that started with an argument over drugs and turned physical.

In court records, police said Perez grabbed a steak knife and cut the 22-year-old woman's calf, as well as a friend's pit bull after the dog got between the women. The dog's injury wasn't immediately discovered.

The injured woman was released after treatment.

Police said alcohol was a factor.

Lancaster County District Judge John Colborn sentenced Perez Friday.
