California: Sentencing for Tyler Vest, accused of possessing heroin along with torturing a poor cat by tying its legs together, continued until next week.

CALIFORNIA -- The sentencing of a man who pleaded no contest to animal cruelty for taping a cat’s legs together was rescheduled Thursday to a date next month.

Tyler Scott Vest, 23, of Valencia, who pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of cruelty to an animal, appeared in San Fernando Superior Court Thursday but was ordered to return to court April 5 for sentencing, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said.

Vest was one of two people arrested during a routine traffic stop in Canyon Country Jan. 9, during which deputies found heroin in the vehicle along with “a cat inside a carrier upside down in the backseat” with her legs taped together, Sgt. Tim Vander Leek said at the time. She was crying loudly in discomfort and pain.

Kylie Stringer, 26, of Canyon Country, also arrested in the traffic stop and who also pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of cruelty to an animal, was placed on three years probation Wednesday.
