Texas: Authorities searching for Christopher Darnell and Miranda Darnell; they say they abandoned pets in motel room

TEXAS -- Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a couple that allegedly left two animals in a hotel room for weeks.

Austin police allege Christopher and Miranda Darnell abandoned a dog and cat in a hotel room along the 8800 block of North I-35 in Austin on Nov. 24, 2015.

Officers were called to the hotel on Dec. 10 for a “severely emaciated dog and cat” in a room.

Police said the cat’s hair was falling out and the dog was locked inside of a cage, had bleeding sores, was covered in fleas and losing its hair. Neither animal had food, water or bedding.

APD said the dog was able to take a few steps out of the cage but collapsed.

Both the dog and cat have made full recoveries, and the cat has been adopted. The dog, Maxwell, required a blood transfusion and is currently in the care of Pflugerville Pets Alive.

The dog, near death, has since recovered

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Christopher and/or Miranda Darnell are asked to call 911 or the APD tip line at 512-978-0523.
