IDAHO -- Asotin County Sheriff's deputies picked up Bernie McCabe early Wednesday morning on an arrest warrant.
KLEW News Anchor, Suzette Reynoso explains he's accused of attacking one of his former contractors.
Bernie McCabe faces chargers of harassment with threats, and animal cruelty. According to the deputy's report obtained by KLEW News, McCabe confronted the victim at a local hardware store. McCabe was angry over a previous issue involving construction work a few years ago.
The victim told deputies, he shrugged it off and walked away. The report says that's when McCabe called him an "expletive" low life, threatened to beat him up.
In the parking lot, the victim says McCabe continued to shout at him. He got into his truck, but told deputies, McCabe opened the passenger's side door.
He grabbed the victim's Yorkshire terrier by the neck, and was strangling it while telling the victim he was going to kill his dog and him next. But once the victim dialed 911, he says McCabe dropped his Yorkie, jumped into his own car and drove away.
This all happened Monday. The victim tells us his dog's name is Lucky and she's living up to her name. She's a year-old and weighs two-and-a-half pounds. She was checked out by her veterinarian, doesn't have any broken bones, but is sore from being chocked. We're told she's also having a hard time keeping her head up. Lucky is on a week of kennel rest, and she doesn't like it.
Court documents also show that the victim had tears in his eyes when the deputy arrived. He told the deputy there was no doubt in his mind that this was going to be the real deal.
