The calls referred authorities to a video Paul Gage Arndt, 22, posted on Facebook with the caption “This is why you don't eat too many weed brownies.”
Deputy Ryan Rupiper reviewed the video and reported a small pit bull type puppy was in immediate need of assistance.
The video has since been deleted from Arndt’s Facebook page.
Authorities made contact with the owner and he voluntarily let them into the home.
According to a press release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, officers arrived at Arndt’s home Tuesday and found “a small pit bull puppy in need of immediate assistance.”
The puppy was immediately removed and taken to the Jewell Veterinary Clinic.
Arndt is expected to be charged with animal torture as well as possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Arndt’s mother, Shan Green, defended her son Facebook and to KCCI, saying he uses marijuana for medical reasons and did not give the puppy a marijuana cookie.
“For whatever purpose he had this pot-laced cookie and he set it on an end table and walked away,” said Green.
Green said the dog ate the cookie off of the table, and emphasized that Arndt in no way was trying to hurt the pit bull puppy.
“I’m not saying putting this out on Facebook wasn’t stupid, because people post a lot of stuff on Facebook that’s stupid,” said Green. “But what I’m saying is accidents happen. Things happen.”
Mom says he smokes pot for "medical reason". Cops say otherwise. |
The case remains under investigation.
