Update to story:
New York: Registered sex offender, Robbie VanBoxlaere, 51, convicted of animal cruelty - gets one year in jail

NEW YORK -- A Geneva man is behind bars after he was charged on Friday morning with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony under the Ag and Markets Law.

The Ontario County Humane Society opened up an investigation after receiving word from personnel at Lollipop Farm of an emaciated cat that had been dropped off at the facility. The black cat, named Sam, was suffering from a large tumor in her head, the Humane Society said in a release.

The investigation allegedly showed that the cat was owned by 51-year-old Robbie M. VanBoxlaere, of 133 Exchange St., Apt. 4, who is accused of knowing of the cat’s condition but not taking her to a veterinarian for treatment.

The cat, which was not able to eat and had difficulty breathing, had to be euthanized, according to the Humane Society.

Meanwhile, VanBoxlaere was arrested for animal cruelty and placed in the Ontario County Jail without bail.

The New York State Division of Parole, Ontario County sheriff’s deputies, the Geneva Police Department and Lollipop Farm assisted in the investigation.
