TENNESSEE -- Ined Holmes faces eight counts of aggravated animal cruelty after investigators say they found puppies inside a bag in a dumpster. Police say surveillance video shows Holmes committing the crime.
“We want everyone to be held accountable for their crimes, and we definitely hope he’s held accountable for this,” Jennifer McBride said. McBride works with rescues across West Tennessee and founded West Tennessee Animal Advocates.
Members of the rescue and advocate group sat behind Holmes as he appeared Thursday morning in Jackson City Court for his preliminary hearing.
“The statistics are there to show many times when they go in and find dog fighting rings, things like that, animal abuse, they find drugs, domestic abuse, child abuse,” McBride said.
Holmes’ preliminary hearing was reset. His newly hired attorney says they’re not sure what type of plea they’ll be entering.
“We don’t know. We’re talking with investigators and hopefully we’ll be able to get something worked out,” Rusty Larson, who is representing Holmes, said.
Larson said they are thankful the puppies and the mother dog are recovering.
“We’re real glad the puppies are doing fine and the mother is doing what mamas do, and that’s taking care of the babies,” Larson said.
The dogs’ foster parent says Diamond, the mother dog, is developing a relationship with her pups.
Holmes is set to appear again in court May 26.
