TEXAS -- Today at approximately 10:30 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence at the 8200 block of Jam Square Street in rural Edinburg, for a report of animal cruelty.
Upon arrival Deputies discovered two adult dogs, one puppy, and a horse living in deplorable conditions. The Deputies also discovered marijuana plants being grown on the side of the home.
Deputies immediately notified the Hidalgo County Cowboy, and Animal Control who took custody of the animals. The County Cowboy will provide care for the horse, while the dogs will be taken to a shelter in an effort to restore their health. The large marijuana plants were seized as evidence for the investigation. The alleged homeowner was not at the location.
The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to report incidents of animal cruelty, in an effort to get them to a home or facility where they can receive the care they need.
We also have plans to renew our partnership with local animal shelters to highlight potential pets, and the adoption process. Be on the lookout for the return of our “Rescue Sunday” social media posts in the near future.
