TEXAS -- A Dallas man accused of setting a dog on fire last week has been arrested on a charge of animal cruelty.
Otis Gardner, 64, was taken into custody late Wednesday, a week after authorities say he poured gasoline on a dog and lit it up in east Oak Cliff, said city spokesman Justin Snasel.
Gardner was released from jail after posting bond Thursday afternoon, according to the Dallas County sheriff’s office.
Police and firefighters responded April 27 to a call in the 3600 block of Utah Avenue. When firefighters arrived, a spokesman said the dog was no longer on fire.
The dog, named Bruno, has been treated at a veterinary clinic and “is recovering,” Snasel said.
It’s unclear whether Bruno belonged to Gardner.
“We want to thank our community for being our eyes and ears on the street and remind everyone of the importance of reporting animal related issues, especially animal cruelty,” Dallas Animal Services division manager Jody Jones said.
