Louisiana: Gonzales man John Green arrested on animal cruelty charges

LOUISIANA -- Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Gonzales man after deputies received a neglected dog complaint.

According to Lt. Col. Bobby Webre, the investigation began on April 27, when deputies were alerted about an intentional neglected dog at a residence located on North Robert Wilson Road.

Deputies attempted to make contact with the homeowner but was unsuccessful.

Deputies located the dog tied to a post behind a wooden shed malnourished.

The dog had visible sores on its nose, legs, and visible dried blood on the back of its ears.

The dog was also found lying in his own feces and deputies could not locate any food, water, or adequate shelter.

Ascension Parish Animal Control officers arrived on scene and took custody of the malnourished dog.

As the investigation continued, deputies made contact with the residence owner, identified as 39-year-old John Green who advised deputies that the dog suffered from heartworms and was being treated by a local veterinary clinic.

Deputies obtained information from the veterinary clinic and learned that the dog was last treated in October 2015. It was also learned that the dog was not vaccinated.

As a result of the investigation, John Green, of 38270 N. Robert Wilson Road, Gonzales, was arrested on Tuesday, May 3 and charged with cruelty to animals and animal rabies vaccination and tags.  He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail where his bond was set at $1,000 by Judge LeBlanc.
