Karl Giddings, 37, has been arrested and charged with one count of failing to provide shelter for an animal and one count of failing to provide medical treatment to an animal.
His mother, Kathy Giddings, 61, was cited for three misdemeanor counts of failing to provide medical treatment and four misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
The arrest and citation followed a 3-month investigation into alleged animal abuse and neglect at the Giddings’ property.
Back on March 23, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his deputies received a tip to investigate the welfare of a few animals in Tonopah.
When they arrived at the home, deputies found a dog which appeared to be dying. Detectives removed the dog from the Tonopah property and rushed it to a veterinarian. Four hours later, the dog died.
Detectives also removed an additional four dogs, six tortoises and one donkey from the Giddings’ property
When Animal Crimes Detectives returned to the Giddings’ home earlier this week, they found 2 more dogs and four puppies in ill condition, along with two dead puppies.
The four puppies and two dogs were seized and taken in for immediate veterinary care, but two more of the puppies died.
“We will continue to crack down on the abuse of animals,” Arpaio says. “We are in the hottest summer months, reaching extreme temperatures fast, and will not tolerate any kind of animal abuse."
