Jennifer Levesque said at about 3:30 a.m. on May 21, she was awakened by her dogs barking. She went to her back door, and found her two dogs barking and growling, and a man pinned to the floor by her yellow Labrador, Monk.
Levesque said the man yelled, “Ma’am, I am unarmed and I need help. Please help me.”
"Seeing a stranger on the floor of your house that you haven't invited in. You can't process it for a while -- I mean, it's sort of one of those moments you can't think. You run into action. Your adrenaline's pumping. I guess I just didn't know what else to do. I just yelled at him to get out of the house," Levesque said.
Levesque shows how she found the burglar Jeffrey Couch crouching inside her house trying to keep from being attacked by her awesome dogs |
"I didn't know if this guy was armed. I didn't know what his intentions were (or) if he was going to hurt me. To have a dog sense that and protect say, 'No, you're not going to hurt my human. You're not going to come into my home' to me, it's remarkable. He is my hero, for sure."
She went to get her gun and the man was able to escape.
Oconee County deputies arrived at the home within minutes, but they were unable to locate the man.
Levesque provided officers with a description of the man, and investigators were able to take two fingerprints from the back door.
Deputies identified 30-year-old Jeffrey Allen Couch as the suspect. Since nothing was taken from the home, Couch will be charged with trespassing.
If that's all he's being charged with she should've let her dogs attack him or shot him.
Anyone with information on where Couch may be is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
