Georgia: Calib Lanier charged with animal cruelty after allegedly setting dog ablaze

GEORGIA -- A Smyrna man is facing charges of animal cruelty after he allegedly set fire to a dog house with a 1 year-old pit bull inside in May of 2015.

Calib Lanier (aka Caleb Lanier) was indicted Friday in a Cobb County courtroom.

According to the Cobb County District Attorney, Lanier boarded up a dog house with a pit bull inside and used a blowtorch to set it on fire - WITH THE DOG INSIDE.

The dog belonged to Lanier's brother and sister-in-law.

The dog, named Royalti, sustained burns to over 60 percent of her body. She has since recovered and has been adopted by the veterinarian who saved her life.

Lanier was also charged with criminal property damage.

Lanier was arrested a year ago but was being held in south Georgia on an unrelated charge.
