The Macon County Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to Macon County Animal Control at about 8:20 p.m. to take a statement about cruel treatment to animals. Upon arriving, deputies say they obtained a video showing someone kicking a small black-and-white kitten with "such force that indicatively caused injury and or death." Authorities say the video showed a pair of bright orange or red colored shoes, which were worn by the individual who struck the kitten.
Deputies also say that the video was captured by a Facebook post, and that the post had messages pertaining to Alexus Lowery as allegedly being the person who kicked the kitten.
According to sworn statements obtained by WAND, Macon County Sheriff's Deputies made contact with Lowery at her aunt's home to question her about the incident. The Sheriff's Office says Lowery allowed her aunt to bring the deputies a bright pair of pink shoes and a bright pair of orange shoes, which appeared to be the same ones seen in the video.
Authorities say Lowery was then taken into custody and transported to the Macon County Sheriff's Office. The Macon County Sheriff's Office says Alexus agreed to speak with investigators under Miranda, and that Alexis allegedly "commented several times that she thought that the incident was funny." Deputies also say that Lowery denied kicking the kitten, but "continued to laugh that a kitten had been kicked and was severely injured or killed." The Sheriff's Office also says that Lowery allegedly said that she saw the kitten walk away.
Lowery remains in custody on a $10,000 bond.
Authorities are still looking for the kitten. It's unknown whether the cat is dead or alive.
