UPDATED INFORMATION - Iowa: Katherine Schoeneich, 49, charged after leaving animals in hot vehicle

IOWA -- I couldn't find anything other than the booking/arrest information. My guess would be, since she's from Michigan, she was in Iowa and left her dogs in a hot car. That's just a guess, though.

A woman has been charged with two counts of animal neglect after leaving her dog and cat in a hot car.

West Des Moines police arrested Katherine Schoeneich, 49, after witnesses noticed a dog and a cat in her car around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Officers arrived and pried the door open to let the animals out. The temperature inside the car was 125 degrees.

Josh Colvin, of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, said it’s appalling someone would be so careless.

“It’s just common sense for people to be kind to their animals and do what the animals need,” Colvin said. “For something like this to happen, it doesn’t make any sense.”

Police said Schoeneich has been released from jail after posting bail and still has custody of the animals.
