United Kingdom: Firefighters are called out to rescue a cow that got its head stuck in a tree

UNITED KINGDOM -- These images capture the moment firefighters were called in to try and free a cow who got stuck - in a tree.

North Yorkshire fire crews had to use a crane to lift the heifer to safety after getting its head stuck in the bow of a tree on farmland in Northallerton, North Yorkshire on Sunday.

Vets were on hand to sedate the cow so it could be lifted to safety while a fire crew used farming machinery and hydraulic spreaders to free the beast.

The farm owners had a nervy two hour wait for it to be freed - but the cow came round and survived the dramatic rescue unscathed.

North Yorkshire fire tweeted: '14:35 £Northallerton crew have attended a cow with its head stuck in a tree! Crew attempted to release cow using strops & farm machinery.

'Vet attended to sedate cow & crew used dewalt saw & chainsaw along with hand tools to release cow. £newcowtrend £poorcow'
