Kentucky: Animal hoarder Brent Holder given six months in county jail for cruelty

KENTUCKY -- Mount Vernon resident Brent Holder, who is charged for involvement in an animal cruelty case, will spend the next few months in jail.

Holder, 49, was charged with eight counts of a Level 6 Felony of Cruelty to an Animal. He appeared in Superior Court last week where he was sentenced to 60 days in the Posey County Jail, followed by two and a half years in Community Corrections.

“While he is serving his sentence, he may not possess any animal. Throughout that two and a half years, probation and Community Corrections officers will be completing checks to make sure he does not have an animal in his possession,” said Posey County Prosecutor Travis Clowers.

While in court, Holder also paid over $18,000 in back child support. In March, Posey County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at Holder’s home on Lower Mount Vernon Road to serve a felony arrest warrant for Nonsupport of a Dependant Child. Deputies said that is when they discovered eight dogs living in Holder’s home in what was described by deputies as “deplorable living conditions.”

Animal control was called to the scene to remove the dogs, where they were transported to the kennel to be cleaned and examined. Posey County Pound Puppies rescued the dogs, and they have been adopted.
